Music outreach (grades 1-6)

Music topics are covered through play in workshops that are individually designed or adapted for the group or room size and the pupils' proficiency level, in coordination with the school teachers.

Workshops:
  • "Musikalische Reise durch den Zauberwald", a workshop designed for learning basic musical concepts (2-3 hrs.)
  • "Wie klingt meine Schule / meine Umgebung / meine Stadt?", a music composition workshop for pupils with and without note reading skills to explore and describe the sounds around them in their school and the urban environment (2-3 hrs.)
  • "Einführung Musiktheorie", an introduction to the basics of rhythm, notation, and instruments (minimum of three sessions of 2-3 hours each)
  • "Musik trifft auf Szene", a workshop to explore how music and scenes come together and what effects that can have on a scene (2-3 hrs.)
  • "Filmgeräusche und -musik selber machen", a workshop in which short silent movie scenes are filmed and then set to music made with everyday objects (minimum 4 hrs.)
  • "Tanzen ohne Musik oder: kann ich zu Schwanensee breakdancen?", a workshop to answer whether it is possible to dance to no music or to breakdance to the score from Swan Lake. Participants gain insights into different styles of dance through listening musically (2-3 hrs.)
  • "Emil und die lauschenden Detektive", a workshop in which the music of 1920s Berlin is connected to the children's literary classic by Erich Kästner (2 hrs., book should be read in advance)
  • Music & Art workshop in which participants create their own "pictures at an exhibition"
  • Interpretation of scenes from classical works such as Vivaldi's Four Seasons, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Carnival of the Animals, Pictures at an Exhibition, Peer Gynt, etc. (minimum 4 hrs.)
